National Medication Shortage: View National Patient Safety Alert
The ADHD assessment process involves several steps
1. Initial Screening
You will be asked to complete rating scales and questionnaires to assess ADHD symptoms and their impact.
Parents/caregivers of children will also provide input, along with reports from the child’s school.
2. Additional background information
Additional information may be gathered from family members, partners, or teachers to understand symptoms comprehensively.
3. Clinical Interview
A specialist ADHD clinician will conduct a thorough assessment, covering symptom onset, impact, developmental history, educational background, family history, and other relevant factors.
4. Psychological Testing
Psychological testing may be recommended in some cases to assess cognitive functioning, attention, and related factors. This may include a QB check which incurs additional fees.
5. Diagnostic Decision
Based on gathered information, a diagnostic decision will be made according to criteria from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of mental Disorders (DSM-5).
6. Treatment Planning
If you are diagnosed with ADHD, we will discuss suitable management options with you. These may include ADHD-focused coaching, lifestyle strategies, and, where appropriate, medical treatment. Suitability for each approach is assessed individually, and any ongoing plan will involve regular follow-up appointments to review progress and wellbeing.
7.Shared-Care
Our aim is to ensure your treatment plan is stable and effective for your individual needs. Once this has been achieved, we can provide supporting documentation to your GP to request shared care, allowing your treatment to be coordinated within NHS services if your GP agrees. Please note that shared care arrangements are at the discretion of your GP.
It’s important to note that the specific assessment process may vary depending on individual circumstances
