Deciding to seek an ADHD assessment can feel like a big step. Many people wonder what the process involves, how long it takes, and what kind of information they will need to provide. At ADHD Active, we follow a structured, evidence-based approach designed to understand your symptoms in context and reach an accurate diagnosis.
Initial screening
The assessment begins with screening questionnaires and rating scales. These explore ADHD symptoms and how they affect everyday functioning. For children, we also gather information from parents or caregivers and request relevant school reports. This helps us build a complete picture of behaviour across different settings.
Background information
Where appropriate, we may ask a family member, partner or teacher to provide additional information. Understanding how symptoms show up in real life, at home, school or work, is an important part of a thorough assessment.
Psychological testing
In some cases, further testing such as a QbCheck may be recommended to assess attention and activity levels. This is not always required, but it can add valuable objective information to support the clinical picture.
Diagnosis and treatment planning
Once the assessment is complete, we discuss the findings with you. If ADHD is diagnosed, we explain suitable options, including coaching, lifestyle strategies and, where appropriate, medication. We also arrange regular follow-ups to monitor progress and adjust treatment as needed.
Our goal is to make the assessment process feel supportive, clear and collaborative. If you have questions at any stage, we encourage you to ask.
